How to efile — Step by step

Go to efiling.sars.gov.za
Or download the SARS MobiApp. Do NOT use unofficial websites.

Register or log in
You'll need your SA ID number, tax reference number, and a valid email address.

Click "Returns" then "Income Tax"
Select ITR12 (individuals) for the correct tax year.

Fill in your details
Employment income (IRP5), medical aid, retirement fund contributions, travel allowance.

Submit and wait
SARS typically processes refunds within 72 hours. Assessments may take up to 3 weeks.

How to get a tax number
Most employees are automatically registered for tax when they start working. If not, you can register:
