What does my SASSA status mean?
Your SRD status changes every month because SASSA checks your eligibility fresh each payment cycle. Here is exactly what each result means and what to do about it.
check_circleApproved
What it means: You passed all verification checks for this month. You will receive R370 this month.
Approved but no payment date showing? This is normal. Payment dates are assigned in batches over a few days. Check back every day — your personal pay date will appear shortly.
Approved with a date but money not received? Allow 2–3 working days after your date for the money to appear. If it still has not arrived, check that your banking details are correct at srd.sassa.gov.za.
hourglass_topPending
What it means: SASSA is still checking your details against government databases — Home Affairs, SARS, UIF, and National Treasury. This is completely normal at the start of each month.
What to do: Wait 7 to 14 days and check again. Do NOT reapply — this will delay your application further.
Still Pending after 30 days? Call SASSA on 0800 60 10 11 and ask them to investigate. There may be a specific blocker on your profile.
cancelDeclined
What it means: You did not qualify for that specific month. A declined result always comes with a reason. The most common reasons are:
Means income source: SASSA detected income above R628 in your bank account. Even a small payment from a family member can trigger this.
Identity verification failed: Your name or details do not match Home Affairs records. Visit a SASSA office with your original ID.
Already receiving another SASSA grant: You cannot receive both SRD and another SASSA grant at the same time.
Registered for NSFAS: NSFAS students do not qualify for SRD.
Registered as employed / UIF contributor: SASSA checks UIF records. If UIF shows you as employed, you may be declined.
Can I appeal? Yes — see the appeal section below.
manage_accountsReferred
What it means: SASSA detected a possible duplicate ID or fraud flag. You must call 0800 60 10 11 or visit your nearest SASSA office with your original ID document for manual verification. This cannot be resolved online.
account_balanceBank Details Pending
What it means: You are approved, but no valid bank account is linked. Go to srd.sassa.gov.za and update your banking details. Until you do this, your payment cannot be released.

Declined? How to appeal your SRD status
If your SRD was declined you have the right to appeal. Over 1.2 million applications were declined in early 2026 — many incorrectly. Do not give up.
1
Request Reconsideration first (within 90 days)
Go to srd.sassa.gov.za, find the declined month, and click "Request Reconsideration". This asks SASSA to review the decision internally. It is free and you do not need a lawyer.
2
Gather your evidence
Bank statements for the declined month, an affidavit explaining any money that appeared in your account (even small amounts from family), and proof of no other income source.
3
If reconsideration fails — lodge a formal appeal
Go to srd.sassa.gov.za/appeals and lodge a formal appeal with the Independent Tribunal for Social Assistance Appeals (ITSAA). This is independent from SASSA and is free. The Tribunal often overturns SASSA decisions.
Remember: Each month must be appealed separately. You have 90 days from the decline date to appeal. A successful appeal results in backpay for that month.
Go to srd.sassa.gov.za, click Application Status, enter your 13-digit ID number and the phone number you used when you applied. Your status for each month will show. You can also check via WhatsApp (082 046 8553), USSD (*120*69277#), or call the free helpline 0800 60 10 11.
Pending means SASSA is still checking your details against government databases — Home Affairs, SARS, and UIF. This is normal at the start of each month and usually takes 7 to 14 days. Do NOT reapply. If it stays Pending for more than 30 days, call 0800 60 10 11.
Approved means you passed verification for that month. Payment dates are assigned in batches a few days after approval appears. Check back daily — your personal pay date will appear soon. Also make sure your banking details are correct on the SRD portal.
SRD R370 payments for May 2026 are processed in batches between 25 and 30 May 2026. Permanent grants: Older Persons 4 May, Disability 5 May, Children's grants 6 May.
SASSA detected income above R628 in your bank account for that month. Even a small payment from a family member or a once-off job can trigger this. You can appeal and explain the payment with a bank statement and affidavit. Appeal at srd.sassa.gov.za within 90 days of the decline.
